What is brewer’s yeast?

Used as food or a dietary supplement, brewer’s yeast has been a wellness ally for thousands of years. It is composed of microscopic fungi, harmless to health and rich in nutrients, called Saccharomyces Boulardii or Saccharomyces cerevisiae. These fungi can digest the sugar and starch in cereals to create a rich environment in proteins, minerals, and B vitamins, the champions of keratin synthesis! Considering that our hair and nails are made up of over 95% keratin, you can imagine the benefits of brewer’s yeast for our mane. In short, it's the perfect ally to maintain the health and beauty of our hair and nails.

There are two forms of yeast:

  • Active or live yeast: Its preparation allows the microscopic fungi to remain intact, ensuring particularly interesting probiotic activity. Its use is intended for digestive care to boost the immune system.

  • Inactive yeast: In contrast to active yeast, its preparation destroys the fungi, eliminating their probiotic action. However, it retains its nutritional benefits, effectively impacting the beauty of the skin, nails, and hair.

What are the benefits of brewer’s yeast?

On hair and nails

Inactive brewer's yeast has a beneficial effect on the health of our hair and nails. It is rich in B vitamins, which allow the synthesis of keratin, preventing premature ageing and hair loss while stimulating hair growth and strengthening nails. Yeast acts at the level of the hair follicle, providing not only better hair growth and hydration but also ensuring shine and vitality. In short, yeast is the ideal ally for dry, dull, split, and brittle hair, as well as being particularly useful against soft, brittle, and striated nails.

On the skin

Rich in zinc, with purifying properties, and vitamin B5, which regulates sebum production, yeast ensures healthy skin and is a significant ally against minor imperfections.

Against deficiencies and the effects of stress

Inactive brewer’s yeast has numerous virtues for our bodies. Thanks to its content of vitamins and minerals, it is particularly recommended in case of deficiencies or to prevent fatigue since it provides many proteins and vitamins, especially present in animal-origin foods (essential for the proper functioning of our body). Yeast also has a revitalizing and antioxidant action to help our body cope with the effects of stress or fatigue, protecting our body from free radicals and oxidative stress responsible for premature skin ageing.

On the digestive system

As mentioned earlier, active brewer’s yeast has many benefits on the balance of the digestive system due to its probiotic activity that maintains a highly efficient intestinal flora and microbiota. Yeast prevents digestive disorders such as bloating, digestion difficulties, or heartburn, among others. By supporting and strengthening the intestinal microbiota, yeast protects our immune system.

Which yeast to choose?

  • In powder: Just sprinkle a little yeast on food; the equivalent of a tablespoon per day (2g) is sufficient. It can also be diluted in a glass of water for the more adventurous.

  • In tablets: Depending on the brand, swallow one to three yeast tablets a day with a large glass of water.

  • In ribbon-shaped natural gummies: A ribbon took like candy, once a day, on an empty stomach or not, at any time of the day!

How to use yeast properly?

The idea is to undergo a one- or two-month course to truly see the effects of yeast. In any case, it is advisable to stay within three months to prevent our bodies from getting used to the supplements. You can also repeat this three-month course several times a year, ensuring to space each course by 2 or 3 months with a one-month break. Tested and approved by Marion, our expertise and experience director was impressed by the effects of yeast. Here's her opinion: "I saw my hair growth accelerate, and it was even more noticeable with my nails, which were no longer brittle at all."

Does yeast cause weight gain?

Rich in vitamins, yeast also contains a lot of proteins, which might make us fear a slight weight gain. However, as long as you consume it as a dietary supplement (at a lower dose), it will not influence your weight and will not make you gain weight. As mentioned earlier, it even promotes good digestion and strengthens the immune system!

What is an alternative to yeast?

If not all dietary supplements on our shelves necessarily contain yeast in their formula, they are equally effective in boosting hair growth and strengthening nails. Here's a glimpse of our favourite finds for healthy hair:

  • Agent Nateur Holi (Mane) Supplement Hair Skin Nails: odourless and tasteless, this multi-action dietary supplement stimulates hair growth, strengthens nails, and protects and revitalises the skin.

  • Atelier Nubio Mermaid hair... s'il vous plaît: 100% plant-based ampoules with soothing and remineralizing properties to balance the scalp and strengthen hair and nails.

  • John Masters Organics Stimulating Scalp Shampoo: this detoxifying shampoo with refreshing peppermint extracts gently purifies the scalp while stimulating hair growth.

So many benefits... But brewer’s yeast is not the only ally for hair growth, as proven by our selection of care products, beauty tools, and dietary supplements that boost growth.
