Wellness secrets from Emily Oberg, Founder of Sporty & Rich

Can you share your overall philosophy on wellness and how it influences your life?

I think that our health should be our number one priority because it's invaluable and something you can't buy or replace once you've lost it. I make my health and wellness my priority every day because it greatly determines my quality of life. I revolve my days around my wellness routine which might sound difficult to some people but if something is important enough to you you will make time and space for it.

What does your morning routine look like?

I try not to check my phone right away but living in L.A while my team is in Paris and 9 hours ahead makes it very difficult. I will brush my teeth, scrap my tongue, take my gut health supplements, drink 1 litre of room temperature water and go to my pilates class. I'll usually eat some fruit or yoghurt as well because I don't like to fast.

What are your Sporty & Rich Beauty favourites for radiant skin?

It smells just like candy and reminds me of being in high school and collecting lip gloss. Everything I do influences the brand and the products we make. I only like to make things that I am personally interested in and passionate about, otherwise, I won't feel fulfilled or excited. I always try to incorporate what I'm doing in my personal life into the brand and business whether it's the wellness treatments and products I'm using or the daily habits I practice.

How do you balance your career with your well-being?

Thankfully I have a great team who handles different aspects of the business so I don't have to worry about everything at all times. The roles in the company are clearly defined so I have the things that I'm responsible for and so do they. I think I've mastered balance in a great way because I've chosen to prioritize my wellness from the very beginning. I also am not addicted to working so I'm able to not be consumed by it and have a healthy relationship with work in general.

Beyond skincare, what are your other self-care and wellness rituals?

I work out daily, I play tennis weekly, I like to go to the gym or group classes, and make sure I'm eating a variety of fresh and healthy foods and limit processed and fake foods. I also like journaling and meditation, breathwork and spending time outside and in nature. I love to hike in LA and go for walks in Paris as well. For my mental health, I see two different therapists and read a lot of self-development books as well as listen to a lot of self-development podcasts.

I need to work out once a day every day, sometimes I will do it twice. I like to move my body and sweat, it makes me feel so good. I do heated pilates and tennis, and I also do light jogging on the treadmill and sometimes I do my own workout with light weights or resistance training. 

I always make sure to do gratitude at any point during the day. I think it's important to remind myself of all of the good things I have in my life so that when something negative happens, I don't focus on it too much. I think living in a state of gratitude is the key to happiness.

You live between Paris and Los Angeles, how do you prioritise wellness while on the go?

I make sure to get a lot of sleep and try to get on each time zone as fast as I can. I'll take lots of naps as well if I'm feeling tired. I will also make sure to continue my routines especially when it comes to working out. It's easy to stop when you travel but I feel worse when I don't maintain it. If I don't have the time or energy to work out I will make sure I'm eating especially healthy and avoiding any junk foods. Drinking more water than usual is also important while travelling.

What advice would you give to enhance one’s wellness journey?

I would say practice prioritizing it and letting go of work and needing to be available to everyone at all times. I think it also helps to make promises to yourself and keep them, so you can hold yourself accountable. And find something you love, whether its the type of workout you do or any wellness ritual, if you don't enjoy it you probably aren't going to do it. The point of life is to make every moment as enjoyable as possible.
