What is an infrared sauna?

Originating from Japan, the special feature of the infrared sauna is its heating system using... infrared radiation! It's a rather "barbaric" name, but a 100% natural practice: its waves (which have a lower frequency than light and are not visible to the naked eye) are harmless and have numerous health benefits. When infrared rays come into contact with the skin, atoms and molecules are set in motion. This release of energy, which we feel as heat, allows us to reap all the benefits... and there are many.

Infrared or traditional sauna?

Unlike a traditional sauna (where the heat from the stove warms the surrounding air), infrared rays diffuse dry heat and penetrate deep into the tissues, warming the body directly. This means the temperature is lower (60°C for an infrared sauna versus 110°C for a traditional sauna), so you can enjoy longer sessions. Gone is the feeling of "suffocation" that can occur after a few minutes in a traditional sauna... As a result, the session lasts longer (30 minutes) and sweating is more intense, as is the purification of the body and skin, thanks to greater elimination of toxins.

"I'm not a traditional sauna customer, precisely because I have a lot of trouble with their imposing, suffocating heat, so I set the intensity of the infrared sauna so that I could increase it as the session progressed, depending on how comfortable I felt. I quickly increase the setting to the maximum to get the most out of the experience. I'm not too hot, but I can feel my body temperature rising and I'm rapidly sweating profusely. I think about all the toxins I'm eliminating (Oh Joy!) and I relax my muscles, my joints and my whole being. I even take the opportunity to meditate: I try to feel the sensations of each of my limbs, from the tips of my toes to the highest point of my head."
