Why use a facial scrub?
Exfoliating your face regularly is THE secret to clear and healthy skin, whatever your skin type. Indeed, exfoliating your face allows you to eliminate dead cells and at the same time, to tighten pores and refine the skin texture. Whether you have dry skin, oily skin, normal skin or combination skin, it is important to eliminate dead cells to ensure optimal cell renewal and to allow better penetration (and therefore optimal effectiveness!) of your facial care products. Especially if you have a dull complexion, irregular skin texture, pigment spots or scars linked to old imperfections, don't underestimate facial scrubs! They have a real resurfacing action and a visible effectiveness from the first use.
What type of facial scrub should I use?
Whatever your skin type, we recommend chemical exfoliants (with fruit acids - AHA and BHA) or enzymatic exfoliants. The benefit of chemical and enzymatic scrubs? They are grain-free, so they are gentler and therefore more respectful of the skin barrier. If you have sensitive skin, opt for enzymatic scrubs or chemical scrubs based on lactic acid or salicylic acid. Glycolic acid should be reserved for normal, combination to oily skin without particular sensitivities. However, if you are a fan of mechanical scrubbing with grains, choose a gentle scrub (for example with jojoba beads) and apply your face scrub with gentle circular movements. However, if you have blemished skin, we do not recommend grainy scrubs, which open up the heads of pimples and therefore spread the bacteria responsible for acne. Always be careful to choose a facial scrub that is adapted to your needs and your skin type, and never over-exfoliate your skin, as this can cause it to become sensitive. It's like everything else: it's good but in moderation! The good news? Facial scrubs come in various forms: exfoliating lotion, peeling mask, exfoliating powder... So you can easily integrate this gesture into your beauty routine, whatever your skin type!
How often should I use a facial scrub?
Enzymatic scrubs, like Oh My Cream Skincare Exfoliating Powder, can be used every 2 or 3 days. The enzymes gently nibble away at the intercellular bonds: this is the gentlest method of exfoliation, suitable for sensitive and reactive skin. Fruit acid scrubs, such as Tata Harper Radiance Resurfacing Mask, are generally more powerful and targeted and should be used once a week. And, if you want to take your skin to the next level, you can also opt for a professional peel (which we are licensed to do in our shops), which should be done every month.
