Which scrub is right for your skin?

Exfoliation is the "beautiful skin" gesture par excellence. By exfoliating the skin from time to time, desquamation is facilitated: the skin is less thick, softer, more comfortable, imperfections are rare and the complexion is more uniform and luminous. In lotion, powder or mask, here is our selection!

How often can I exfoliate?

How often can I exfoliate?
On average, once or twice a week, and always on clean skin. Even sensitive skin can be exfoliated, as long as you use a suitable product. The only thing to watch out for is the sun. Avoid exfoliating in the morning if you are going to be exposed to the sun during the day. And if you exfoliate the day before, apply a sun cream the next morning. And what about the body? The frequency is the same! However, be careful to avoid dry brushing on the same day, as this can over-exfoliate the skin, as can waxing before exfoliation, which can sensitise the skin.

Which face scrub to choose?

Exfoliation is the "beautiful skin" gesture par excellence (provided that it does not rhyme with irritation!). By exfoliating the skin from time to time, desquamation is facilitated. The skin is less thick, softer, more comfortable (and yes, the elimination of dead cells on the surface helps boost the penetration of active ingredients and creams applied afterwards), imperfections are rare (no more dead skin layer that clogs pores and prevents sebum from flowing), the complexion is more uniform and luminous. We therefore opt for an enzymatic or chemical exfoliation, based on enzymes (gentler) or fruit acids (more targeted and more powerful), to exfoliate without using grains. The job is done by molecules that nibble at the bonds that hold cells together, a bit like little Pac-Man. This is both the gentlest and the most effective system, and it produces amazing results!

The most used exfoliation habits

The "zero" scrub Some of you have given up scrubs because you haven't found a method that doesn't irritate! However, a lack of exfoliation prevents the active ingredients from penetrating, impedes the flow of sebum, clogs pores, dulls the complexion and slows down cell renewal. With all these problems, it is clear that (gentle) exfoliation is an essential step that should be included in your routine!Mechanical exfoliation Mechanical exfoliation: here, the grains are rubbed to remove dead cells. These scrubs can be suitable for dry skin, but beware, in most cases, they are too strong! Often used too abruptly, mechanical exfoliation is not recommended for sensitive skin or skin with imperfections. Why not? Because these famous grains risk opening the pimple and causing bacterial proliferation. As you can see, exfoliation should not be synonymous with irritation!

Choosing an exfoliator

Enzymatic or chemical exfoliation is a much gentler method than mechanical exfoliation, but some exfoliants can be quite concentrated: make sure the product is well adapted to your skin! These exfoliants exist in the form of powder (to be mixed with water), mask (to be left on), or even lotion or serum: if the texture and the method of application are to be chosen according to your tastes and habits, the main thing is to correctly target the exfoliating molecule that will solve your problem. Choose an exfoliant with fruit enzymes if you have sensitive or reactive skin, with antibacterial salicylic acid if imperfections are your daily lot, with lactic acid to boost hydration and clarity of the complexion, or with glycolic acid for a more powerful and anti-ageing action.

For normal skin in search of radiance

For the lucky ones who don't have any particular problem to deal with, we bet everything on radiance! If I'm a newcomer to grain-free exfoliation, I opt for the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant , Oh My Cream's best-seller, the daily and universal enzyme exfoliating powder, which guarantees a perfect skin texture and is amazing from the very first use! If I have sensitive skin, I opt for the Oh My Cream Skincare Exfoliating Powder, which is even gentler. If I don't have the time to integrate a gesture into my daily routine, I prefer the more powerful Ren Skincare Glycolactic Mask, a glycolic acid-based marmalade to be left on as a mask for a "wow" effect.

For sensitive skin

If I'm new to grain-free exfoliation, I use Oh My Cream Skincare Exfoliating Powder, a gentle exfoliating powder to be mixed with water to reveal a smooth, even complexion. If I don't have the time to incorporate something into my daily routine, I prefer Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask, a gentle mask to leave on for 20 minutes. One key word: gentleness! Reactive and inflamed, sensitive skin must be treated with care. I prefer fruit enzymes, these 100% natural molecules that do the job gently.

For dry and dehydrated skin:

Lucky people who have normal to dry skin only have a few skin problems. To softly exfoliate, creamy textures that are rich in moisturizing ingredients are perfect.

For blemish prone skin

If my skin is prone to imperfections, I prefer gentle exfoliations (imperfections being above all an inflammation that needs to be soothed!) and formulas containing salicylic acid, an exfoliating agent known for its gentleness and antibacterial properties. For a gentle daily exfoliating powder, Oh My Cream Skincare Exfoliating Powder is a sure bet. For a detoxifying action, I opt for Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant

For skin with dark spots

Those who don't want to add a gesture to their daily routine will swap their cleanser for the Dermalogica Resurfacing Cleanser, the enemy of damaged complexions, or opt for the Nuori Vitale Cleansing Foam, which guarantees a clearer, more radiant complexion. Multi-use enthusiasts (who are not sensitive) can leave the Oh My Cream Skincare Exfoliating Lotion with glycolic acid, which also fights imperfections, on overnight.
