She shines through her approach to natural beauty, her unapologetic vision, and her holistic take on wellness. Emma Hoareau is one of those inspiring experts who shares everything she knows about the art of self-care—effortlessly and authentically—on social media. Meet the French-British skinfluencer with a beauty shelf worth exploring.

Tell us everything about you

“Hi, I’m Emma, I’m half French, half English and have worked in the beauty industry for 15 years. I was a journalist and beauty editor first, and then as I shared my tips and tricks online, I am now a skincare influencer, or ‘skinfluencer’ as I call it.”

Have you always been interested in skincare and wellness?

“I think I’ve always been interested in overall wellness. I was a gymnast growing up, so I was very aware of my body and what it could do – and the importance of looking after it, whether that was long baths or stretching! I also developed acne in my early teens, so I had to find lots out (this was pre-Google or social media!), so that’s when I started to learn more about ingredients and what my skin needed. That began my passion, I think.”

You advocate for a more authentic approach to beauty. What does this philosophy mean to you?

“For me, beauty is not necessarily about how things look visually, but also the energy behind someone or something. You can be ‘beautiful’ on paper but have an inauthentic energy. Also, so much these days online is behind filters, and people turn to injectables so easily! For me, it’s working to the best of what you have, rather than altering it completely. Finding the beauty within so that it shines out, rather than hiding it away.”

How has your skincare routine evolved over the years? Are there any key lessons or habits that have truly changed how you care for your skin?

“I think when I first got into it I wanted to use everything at once and definitely over-exfoliated my skin and damaged my skin barrier. Now I know that less is often more when it comes to skin, especially when it’s sensitive like mine. No in terms of actives, I just use an antioxidant each morning (niacinamide), an AHA (lactic acid) twice a week and retinal once a week. If I have a breakout, I use salicylic acid. The rest of my skincare is focused on hydrating and strengthening.”

What’s one skincare tip, technique, or product that has truly been a game-changer for you?

“Niacinamide. My skin never reacted super well to Vitamin C, it gave me brightening but was too acidic for me, so I love Niacinamide (vitamin b3) as it gives me all the brightening effects of Vitamin C, no reaction and also the added benefit of helping skin barrier, calming the skin, reducing breakouts and helping hydration.”

What’s one underrated skincare step or product you think deserves more attention?

“Cleansing! I think everyone might ‘do’ it, but lots rush it and don’t take the time it needs. Your oil cleanser must be used for at least 40 seconds and always removed with a warm cloth. Without a good cleanser, every other skincare product you’re applying to your skin is just sitting on top of dirt or oil, never being absorbed, aka the best way to waste money on skincare to never have it reach its potential.”

Beyond skincare, what other wellness practices do you incorporate into your daily life to feel your best?

“I love journaling, meditating and and practising mantras. All the classics, really. I’m also super into Human Design, and learning more about my energetics opened a whole new world for me to understand myself and those around me more deeply. I think if we can stay authentic to what is truly for us, then we will always feel good.”

What role does beauty play in your daily life?

“I think it’s definitely a ritual. As someone who has struggled with mental health over the years, I think having the ritual of skincare to bookend each day has helped me tremendously. It’s calming, soothing and a good time to reflect. It feels good to care for your body – let’s not forget skin is our biggest organ! To me, it’s the ultimate self-love and care.”

What is your ultimate self-care ritual when you need to reset and recharge?

“A bath full of magnesium flakes, bath oil, a big cup of tea and a lovely candle burning. Taking to time to fully melt and not look at my phone and be present in the moment with nyself always helps me reset.”

What advice would you give to someone struggling to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin?

“Skin is just skin, it’s not who you are. Focus your energy on being a good person inside with great energy rather than just the visual outside!”

You have such a strong creative eye—what inspires you, both in beauty and beyond?

“Everything! Books I read, the nature I see on my morning walk, the people around me. Beauty really is everywhere; we just have to be open to seeing it. “

Are there any exciting projects you’re currently working on that you’d like to share with us?

“I recently launched a skincare brand called Sancta, as a co founder, with an amazing body oil and the best body gua sha ever! I’m so excited for this new chapter and to see how it goes.
