Blemishes: 3 routines that work

Pimples affect all skin types, but that doesn't mean we have to rush into the same skin care routine. Here are our 3 key routines to avoid unpleasant surprises and finally see real results on a daily basis.

Why do I have blemishes?

Blemishes are caused by several factors that are intertwined:

- The epidermis thickens. Cell renewal is slower. As a result, the skin loses its clarity.

- An excess of sebum settles in. The skin shines and dilated pores can appear.

- A bacterium (known under the small name of Propionibacterium acnes) multiplies at sight and modifies the pH of the skin, thus creating an imbalance and sensitivities.

These 3 phenomena combined cause local inflammation, putting our skin patience to the test. Note that not only acne-prone skin can be affected by imperfections: dry, combination or sensitive skin can also occasionally show pimples and dilated pores.

Case 1: My skin is normal to combination and it has pimples

This is the most common case, and at any age! Stress peaks, hormonal variations, pollution, unsuitable routines (or all at once!), imperfections can give us a hard time... The trap to avoid? Rushing to use products that are a little too astringent (such as lotions rich in alcohol) or too much exfoliating, at the risk of ending up with uncomfortable and dehydrated skin... while we're at it, we might as well not add a second skin problem ;-)

My beauty prescription:

In the morning:

At night:

  1. Double cleanse with Oh My Cream Skincare Make-Up Removing Balm + Cleansing Jelly
  2. Reduce marks and tighten pores with Oh My Cream Skincare Exfoliating Lotion every other day or every third day depending on sensitivity
  3. Rebalance with Oh My Cream Skincare  Correcting Oil
  4. Once or twice a week after the double cleansing, perform a deeper cleansing with the Oh My Cream Skincare Cleansing Mask

Case 2: I have pimples and sensitive skin

In this case, it's a bit of a vicious cycle. For sensitive skin, the surface barrier is altered, which results in inflamed skin that reacts (by making small pimples accompanied by diffuse redness). This phenomenon can be exacerbated if the skin has undergone a dermatological treatment against acne that is too strong or too long. The right reflex? Don't necessarily treat your skin just with anti-imperfection products (generally formulated for oily skin), but be cunning and include sensitive skin products.

My beauty prescription:

Morning:

  1. For sensitive, combination skin (so with a little excess oil first thing in the morning), use Susanne Kaufmann Cleansing Gel. Otherwise, no need to cleanse the face. And to really freshen up, use a gentle lotion
  2. Treat and moisturise with Pai Skincare All Becomes Clear Anti-Blemish Serum and The Pioneer Mattifying Moisturiser

Evening:

  1. Practice double cleansing with RMS Beauty Raw Coconut Cream + Susanne Kaufmann Cleansing Gel
  2. Treat and moisturise with Pai Skincare All Becomes Clear Anti-Blemish Serum and The Pioneer Mattifying Moisturiser
  3. Once or twice a week after double cleansing, apply the purifying and moisturising Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask

Case 3: I have oily skin and pimples

Overproduction of sebum, thickening of the epidermis: these 2 factors are prominent. We also know that Propionibacterium acnes bacteria like to live in anaerobic conditions (without air, in the hollow of the pores) and that they feed by degrading skin lipids. Oily skin is therefore its favourite playground. The right thing to do? Don't strip, as this can lead to sensitization and over-stimulation of the sebaceous glands. Gently cleanse and treat over time in a gentle manner.

My beauty prescription:

In the morning:

  1. Eliminate overnight sebum build-up with the Dermalogica Active Clay Cleanser
  2. Target pimples with Dermalogica Age Bright Spot Fader
  3. Lightly moisturise with Dermalogica Active Moist

At night:

  1. Double cleanse with Precleanse Cleansing Oil + Dermalogica Active Clay Cleanser
  2. Target pimples with Dermalogica Age Bright Spot Fader
  3. Lightly moisturise with Dermalogica Active Moist
  4. Once or twice a week after the double cleansing, purify in depth with the Patyka Detox Charcoal Mask
