For a wellness day in Venice Beach

Den Mother - a wellness centre or rather healing house where you can reconnect with your body and what it really needs. Opt for the private hot-cold circuit, where you and your partner can move from a cedar sauna to an icy pool.

A hôtel to hit snooze

For a memorable workout class

The Class - Taryn Toomey’s definition of evading "class" is a cathartic experience. You move, scream, shake, and yell as you release emotional energy–and get a pretty incredible workout in the process, care of burpees, planks, leg lifts, and squats. There's a fair bit of yoga worked in for good measure. It requires an open mind and a willing spirit.

American Beauty - Great cocktails and perfect steak—the move here is to go on a warm summer night and eat outside on their sprawling patio.

To shop til you drop

The Brentwood Country Mart - Besides being home to goop Brentwood, there is a spate of other great boutiques here (Jenni Kayne, Turpan, Dôen, adorable kids store Poppy). There's also an old-school candy shop (Edelweiss), an ice cream parlour (Sweet Rose Ice Cream), a wonderful bookstore (Diesel)—stop at Farmshop for lunch.

For a walk in nature

Los Leones Canyon Hike - This beautiful hike is between Santa Monica and Malibu, offering panoramic views of both the ocean and the city. The first part of the hike is the Los Leones Trail, which is lush, green, and not too difficult. If you do the whole hike, which is about 7.3 miles, you'll end up in Topanga State Park

For the pasta-lovers

Felix - You’ll need a reservation here—Chef Evan Funke’s pastas and sfincione (Sicilian focaccia) are justifiably famous around town.

The Getty - Offering some of the city’s best views, you can spend a good half-day picnicking on the lawn above the central gardens, or wandering around the Richard Meier-designed exterior (construction employed about 1,200,000 square feet of travertine) before you even head inside.
