Bathroom talk with Elisa Lune, the holistic facialist and gua sha expert

Her name is poetic, her profession inspiring. Elisa Lune is a beauty and wellness enthustiast who has become an expert in her field by developing a unique mastery of gua sha. More than just a facialist, she takes care of every skin to reveal its natural radiance, turning every treatment into a holistic experience to leave glowing, relaxed and confident. Meet this wellness expert with the many beauty secrets.

Tell us all about yourself

I’m a facialist specializing in facial massage, Gua Sha, and intra-oral massage, and I'm based in the beautiful county of West Sussex. My love for skincare began at 18 while working at Space NK, where I found myself trying to convince people to spend £150 on a face cream—before I even fully understood what hyaluronic acid was (this was pre-social media, so no quick explainers!).

"I was fascinated by how to make skin look naturally radiant rather than covered up. I always admired the effortless approach of French beauty—minimal makeup that lets the skin shine through."

The real turning point came when I started prepping skin before makeup. Seeing someone leave glowing and confident made me realize skincare isn’t just about products—it’s about how you feel. Growing up with a French mother and grandmother, I was always curious about the creams they kept in their cabinets, so it felt natural to take the next step. I became a skincare expert and landed a dream job with Caudalie, where I spent seven years learning everything about skin concerns and what truly works.

As time passed, I noticed the increasing popularity of Botox and fillers, especially among women my age (30+). While there’s no judgment, I’ve always been drawn to a more natural approach and believed there had to be another way. I wanted to understand skin on a deeper level. Just before Covid, I trained in facial massage and Gua Sha, and that’s when I truly fell in love with what happens beneath the skin.

What does being a holistic facialist mean to you?

When you truly understand the skin on a deeper level, you realize that everything is connected. Skin isn’t just an isolated organ—it reflects the health of the body, mind, and soul. My approach to beauty and self-care goes beyond the surface, encompassing nutrition, movement, mindset, energy flow and overall balance in life

How do you personally define self-care?

For me, true happiness comes in the quiet moments I have to myself—connecting with the elements around me, walking in the woods, feeling the sun on my skin, and simply slowing down to soak it all in. With nature right on my doorstep, I’m reminded of the time I spent in the French countryside as a child, visiting my grandparents. Those memories shaped me, and it’s why I chose to live somewhere that keeps me close to that sense of peace, away from the rush of the city.

Have you always been interested in skincare and wellness?

I grew up as a national swimmer, so staying active has always been a part of me. The discipline and competitiveness of swimming taught me resilience and mental strength—pushing through challenges, staying focused, and never giving up. My obsession with skin started in secondary school when I first began wearing makeup. I was fascinated by how to make skin look naturally radiant rather than covered up. I always admired the effortless approach of French beauty—minimal makeup that lets the skin shine through.

What is your ultimate self-care ritual?

I’m currently fascinated by connective tissue (fascia)—the intricate web that runs through our entire body, keeping it hydrated and aligned. One of my favorite morning rituals is opening up my chest and stretching my neck, doing this intuitively with my fingers and without any products on my skin. Working with the fascia in this way helps release tension, improve posture, and maintain vitality in my face—it always feels amazing especially in the world of tech we live in where we are always hunched over looking at our phones.

What are the key benefits of facial massages for you?

It’s hard to sum up just how powerful facial massage is for the skin, mind, and body. If you can have it done by a professional once a month, your entire being will thank you—there’s something truly healing about another person’s touch.

The benefits are endless, but some of the key ones include increased circulation, lymphatic drainage, nutrient-rich blood flow to the skin, and a natural boost in collagen and elastin production. The best part? You can do it yourself at home, and it’s completely free! Just grab your favourite facial oil (or take a few extra minutes while cleansing with an oil) and work it into your neck and face for five minutes. Your skin will love you for it.

What's the product you can’t live without?

I’m a huge fan of cleansing oils, and the Oh My Cream Skincare Make-up Removing Oil is my go-to when I need to quickly remove makeup before starting the rest of my skincare routine. It’s incredibly gentle yet effective, effortlessly melting everything away. I also can’t live without my beautiful nephrite Gua Sha stone from Cecily Braden. Unlike other stones, nephrite is incredibly strong, making it the perfect tool for deep, effective work. I use it on both my clients and myself to release tension, create space in the connective tissue, and keep my skin in balance—it truly works on everything.

What’s the best way to integrate Gua Sha into a skincare routine?

I love all of Cecily Braden’s Gua Sha stones because they’re designed with bevelled edges, which provide the best grip and connection with the skin—essential for effective gliding.

In my opinion, the best time to integrate Gua Sha into your routine is in the morning rather than at night. If done too close to bedtime, fluid may not drain properly since you’ll be lying down, which can lead to puffiness. Ideally, follow your Gua Sha practice with a walk to encourage circulation and lymphatic flow. If I had to give one key tip, it would be to start with the neck—gliding the stone up and down with a little oil. As long as the neck pathway is open, your face will naturally benefit. Always hold the tool at a 45-degree angle and aim for about three sessions a week.

Most importantly, Gua Sha is an intuitive practice, so listen to what your skin needs. If you have active breakouts, avoid working directly over them. Instead, focus on the area beneath the inflammation to support healing. As mentioned, opening up the neck first is key—this alone can help promote drainage and improve the skin as breakouts clear.

"Belief is everything—trusting in what I do and in what I want for myself. It’s a powerful mindset that keeps me grounded and helps me navigate every moment in life."

How did gua sha change the way you take care of your skin?

Gua Sha is a powerful tool for creating space within the skin, helping to restore fluid pathways for naturally improved drainage and tissue flow. With regular use, it reduces puffiness, enhances circulation, and leaves the skin brighter, glowing, and beautifully sculpted

What other wellness rituals do you swear by to feel your best?

Embrace the life force of the sun! It’s a debated topic, but I firmly believe in its healing power. In the UK, sunshine is rare, so when it’s available, I make the most of it. Early sunrise and late sunset provide beneficial red light for the eyes, while a little time in the midday sun helps absorb much-needed vitamin D—something many of us are deficient in.

Do you have a go-to facial massage technique that delivers instant results?

Skin rolling is one of my favourite techniques, you don’t need any oil—this allows for better grip and deeper work. It helps hydrate the fascia, release adhesions in the tissue, and boost circulation. The result? Instantly revived, glowing skin.

What inspires you in your work every day?

The desire to keep learning grows with every client who walks into my treatment room. Facial anatomy is endlessly fascinating, and there’s always more to discover. Every face is unique, and there’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing someone leave not only with visible results but feeling truly transformed.

Can you tell us more about your future project and current residency?

Yes! I am going to be a seasonal resident at an absolute beautiful facial studio in Glasgow for the Month of April and September this year at FACESPACE .To be invited to work alongside some incredible facialists I’m truly honoured. I have a permanent residency with Barnsgrove which is where you’ll find me most of the time. Set in the beautiful countryside of Hampshire it is truly a dream to work in. They are a private members club on a working farm just outside of London with a focus on wellness. I am in the treatment room every Thursday, it really is a happy place for me. I think it’s time we brought the wellness industry outside of London.

Last but not least, what’s your wellness philosophy?

Belief is everything—trusting in what I do and in what I want for myself. It’s a powerful mindset that keeps me grounded and helps me navigate every moment in life.
