Meet Coralie Frébourg, founder of the fragrances Versatile Paris

Watching the cooking show Top Chef inspired Coralie Frébourg to create her own perfume brand: Versatile Paris. It's a brand that lives up to its name, with a collection of fragrances that can be changed according to mood, mood or time of day. Meet this passionate woman who is reinventing the way perfume is worn.

How did the desire to create your perfume brand come about?

I graduated from the Ecole Supérieure du Parfum in 2019. In 2020, as I was finishing a fixed-term contract in marketing for a major luxury group, I thought I'd be hired permanently, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, hiring was frozen and I found myself unemployed. I hadn't planned to create my own brand, but after 6 months of waiting, I finally decided to take advantage of the skills I'd acquired during my previous professional experiences and create my brand - the gamble of a lifetime!

What role does fragrance play in our daily lives?

Perfume, the sense of smell, is one of those somewhat “forgotten” senses that has been revived during the pandemic. It's when you lose something that you realize its value. People realized that without a sense of smell, life was bland, nothing had taste, and it's true! I strongly believe in the positive impact of fragrance on well-being and mental health. Who hasn't enjoyed being told that he or she smells good? To smell good is to feel good about your body, your clothes and your mind. Even if the scent of natural skin is captivating and unique to each individual, I can't go a day without perfume. It's my identity, my comfort bubble!

Why the name “Versatile”?

VERSATILE means a person who often changes his or her mind. I can claim to be a versatile person, being a native Pisces, so I spend my life being indecisive. As for the brand, we wanted a name that would resonate in France as well as internationally. This is also the brand's motto: to have a versatile collection of fragrances that you can change according to your mood of the day!

Why did you create fragrances that can be changed to suit your moods and daily life?

95% of perfumes on the market are 100 ml eaux de parfum, with alcohol and in spray form. Knowing the sector well, and having a real desire to offer an alternative to what already exists, it was clear to us that we wanted to do just the opposite: 15ml perfumes, alcohol-free, in roll-on format, highly concentrated in Fragrance Extract. Although roll-ons have always existed, it is now our strength and uniqueness to offer this alternative product, at a reasonable price, and to have succeeded in combining durability, desirability and mix. For too long, we've had consumers loyal to their perfume for 30 years, without daring or wanting to change for fear of losing their identity. With Versatile Paris, be unfaithful, be unreasonable and wear what you want, where you want, when you want!

Can you tell us about the unique compositions of your fragrances?

Fun fact: what if I told you that the primary inspiration for our fragrances came from the cooking show Top Chef? Yes, while watching this cooking show, where each contestant is pushed to excel, surpass themselves and be creative, we said to ourselves “Why not perfume?".

Let's remember that the senses of smell and taste are intimately linked. Many brands choose to tell stories about the creator's origins or travels, far-fetched concepts... For us, none of that matters. Food, on the other hand, speaks to everyone.

Food is a moment of pleasure, of sharing, a convivial moment that feels good, and that's what we wanted for our perfume brand! (To) indulge. Our fragrances are therefore inspired by food (and drinks), such as Croissant Café, a typical French breakfast with its buttered croissant and cappuccino, or Rital Date, a tribute to Italy with its original limoncello - pesto - toasted pistachio blend, or Culot Thé with its jasmine tea - apricot skin - wasabi blend.

“The sense of smell is our memory, we put it in a bottle and it works! Smells are addictive, they bring back memories to people, impactful smells, original but within everyone's reach.”

How do you choose the moments in life that deserve their scent?

At Versatile Paris, we don't believe in fairy tales. We love real life, the one we all know about, not the mundane. So we draw our inspiration from ordinary moments like breakfast, tea time, a date, Sunday laziness and the aperitif (very Frenchy)! Above all, we're epicureans, bon vivants and lovers of French savoir-vivre
