Tell us everything about yourself

“My name is Colombe Campana. I’m 44 years old, Parisian by birth, a mum of three, and the founder of Call It By Your Name. I’ve worked in fashion for over 20 years, primarily in artistic direction and collection development for different fashion houses, from Claudia Pierlot and Sonia Rykiel to & Other Stories and the H&M Group. I was also Artistic Director of Tara Jarmon. In 2020, I founded Call It By Your Name: an accessories brand inspired by the American bandana, which – for selected pieces – we hand-embroider and personalise. As time has gone on, our collection has expanded to include prêt-à-porter fashion pieces and silks, and will soon feature leather goods too, come Summer 2026.”

The story behind Call It By Your Name is fascinating—how did it all start?

"I used to hand-embroider bandanas for my kids in my spare time… and bit by bit, friends started asking me for them, especially during the first lockdown. I began sending my creations all over France, and then they shared photos of the bandanas on Instagram. Suddenly, the demand just exploded. I think everyone was glued to their phones back then, and it really took off like a snowball."

What inspires you most about your work?

“What I’m most passionate about is creation. Looking for new shapes and coming up with original designs... The process of continual creative endeavour is what drives me the most. I love that the objects and accessories I create are both practical and beautiful, unique and colourful. I have so much fun with Call It By Your Name. Developing accessories is actually quite new for me, but it perfectly corresponds with my personal style, which is very classic and timeless in terms of clothing, and much bolder when it comes to accessories. I love the idea that our pieces embellish and inject energy into simple, timeless outfits.

I’m also really passionate about local craftsmanship, and it’s one of the first things I look for when I travel to a new country or city. The bandana fits perfectly into that: it was originally created in India but arrived in the United States almost a century ago, and it’s still made by hand today. I also love this accessory because it’s timeless, classic, and above all, transgenerational—it works just as well for a child as it does for an older person. They’re also pieces that get passed down, from mother to daughter."

What’s your vision of beauty?

“My vision of beauty is very simple and efficient. I’m both impatient and a perfectionist, so my routine must absolutely reflect these two sides of my personality. I love clean products with flawless formulas, that almost melt into the skin without ever masking it. For me, makeup should only enhance, never detract or define. I myself use very little makeup – concealer, blusher or a touch of mascara during the day, and sometimes light eye makeup in the evening. Everything needs to be easy, quick, and effortless, but with flawless textures and results. That’s the kind of beauty that speaks to me – a beauty that’s discreet, controlled, and that elevates rather than transforms.”

Where does beauty fit into your work?

“Beauty is completely central to my work, but also to my life more generally. I seek it out and find it everywhere: in colours, shapes, materials, in well-executed things, and in craftsmanship, which really resonates with me. In my daily professional life, beauty appears at every step of the way: in my research, in discussions with pattern makers, in the thinking behind the collections, but also in communication. It’s a constant guiding thread. And this pursuit of beauty goes far beyond my work – it’s present in my home, in my apartment, and even in my kitchen. I love cooking, and exploring ingredients and spices, and searching for the sort of beauty that offers a fresh perspective on the simplest things.”

What are your makeup bag essentials?

“My essentials largely revolve around the brand Ilia, which I discovered a few years back. The Skin Rewind Complexion Stick Foundation is one of my favourite products! I don’t use it every day, but I absolutely love it. The Multi-Stick blush, on the other hand, is very much part of my daily routine – I’ve been using the shade At Last for 2 or 3 years now, and I think it’s an exceptional product. It’s really long-lasting, blends perfectly into the skin, and gives this incredible glow. The Limitless Lash Mascara is amazing, and its brush beautifully lengthens lashes.

I also use many products from the Oh My Cream Skincare range, including the lip balms and  – for the eyes – the Eyeshadow Stick in shade chocolate, which I discovered recently.

For 25 years, I’ve stayed loyal to my Clinique concealer. And for the past three years, I’ve been using La Bruket’s Lip Balm every single day – on myself, but also on my children. So that’s what my makeup bag ultimately looks like: very few products, but products that I really love and that I never grow tired of.”

Does your work influence how you do your makeup?

“Not really. I’m quite consistent with how I do my makeup, and I never try to match it to my outfits, my bags, or my overall look that day. My routine stays the same whether I’m in the office, have meetings, or am attending a professional event. There’s no distinction between my ‘work makeup’ and ‘everyday makeup’ – I keep things simple, discreet, and effective.”

What’s your favourite part of your face to play up with makeup?

“The area I apply the most makeup to is my cheeks. I always give them a little touch of colour to brighten my complexion. I also use a lot of concealer – under my eyes, on the sides of my nose, and a little under my chin – to even my tone and add some light to my face. Those are the areas I focus on most day-to-day.”

How do you bring out your natural glow, even without makeup?

“There are several rituals I love. The first is massaging my face with oil – this stimulates circulation, instantly reviving radiance and giving a healthy glow. I also use the Boum Boum Milk from Violette_FR, which I think is brilliant. It’s the perfect product when I have a night out and simply need to refresh my makeup: it gently rehydrates the skin, lets you lightly touch-up your complexion, and gives you a really natural glow. And then I love cleansing my face with Oskia’s Renaissance Cleansing Gel. I absolutely adore its texture, scent, and – most of all – the immediate peachy-skin finish it leaves. It’s a product that truly transforms your skin quality.”

How do you lift yourself up and feel comfortable in your skin, even on days that feel off?

“My go-to ritual is all about good skin hydration. On days when you’re tired, when you haven’t slept well, or when you’re not feeling on form, cleansing followed by a facial massage changes everything. I recently discovered the brand Firn, and their Multi-Corrective Regenerating Cream has become an essential for me. I’ve got quite dry skin, and this cream provides deep hydration without leaving a greasy feel. It allows for a really effective massage and leaves skin looking beautiful and radiant, and feeling supple.”

Do you think the way we approach our beauty rituals can reflect who we are, just like the way we dress?

“For me, my beauty routine perfectly mirrors the way I dress: it’s simple, consistent, and largely unchanging. I use very few products – just as I own very few clothes – and I don’t really follow trends. Once I find a product that works for me, I stick with it for a long time. There’s almost some form of marriage between a person and the products or clothes they choose – something that’s built to last. I actually think this is the best way to let individual personality shine through. Makeup isn’t there to conceal or transform. Quite the opposite: it reveals. It lays bare what is most true, most beautiful, and most authentic about a person.”
